The Aiga Folau o Samoa or Samoa Voyaging Society (SVS) is a Samoa-registered, non-profit organisation established in 2009 with the mission to firmly re-establish traditional voyaging as part of the Samoan cultural and national heritage.
The gifting of the va’a Gaualofa was the impetus for our formation, and has allowed us to work towards fulfilling the desire, held since at least the 1970’s, to revive traditional Polynesian culture and voyaging techniques.
To achieve this we engage with the people of Samoa, especially our youth, and encourage them also to contribute to sustainable development and the preservation of the Samoan marine and land environment.
The Patron of the Aiga Folau o Samoa is His Highness the Head of State of Samoa, Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese Efi; the Vice Patron is Tuatagaloa Joe Annandale.
- To encourage and develop traditional Polynesian voyaging, navigation and maritime skills among Samoans and other Pacific Islanders
- To encourage conservation, protection and awareness of the Pacific Ocean and island environments.
- To undertake open ocean voyages to contribute to the revival of traditions including historical links between islands.
